The Best Sunscreen to Wear in Your 20s

sunscreen to use in your 20s

What’s the best sunscreen to wear in your 20s? We decided to ask our friend and New Orleans-based board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Deirdre Hooper, to let us in on a consultation with her 21-year-old patient, Raven, where she talks about the best sunscreen to use in your 20s. Watch it below!

In the video, Raven tells Dr. Hooper that she is hoping to get rid of her acne scars and Dr. Hooper informs her that with regular sunscreen usage, acne scars can be diminished. She also lets her know that sunscreen can actually help prevent the formation of acne scars. “[Your acne scars will get] much worse if you go in the sun because the sun is going to darken your acne scars,” says Dr. Hooper. “So it’s very important — in addition to your acne regimen — to use sun protection.”

Since Raven is African-American, Dr. Hooper suggests that she uses Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 as her everyday sunscreen since it goes on completely clear and won’t leave any white cast. She also suggests incorporating Poof Part Powder SPF 45 into her routine. “A lot of my patients in their 20s, they’re busy, they’re running around and they are big fans of dry shampoos,” says Dr. Hooper. “But what if you could combine a dry shampoo with sunscreen, so that you can protect your scalp? Because later in life, we find skin cancers on the scalp. It’s very common.”

Finally, you can’t forget about your body! For something fun and protective, Dr. Hooper recommends the Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil SPF 50. “Body sunscreen is sometimes thought of as something we only do at the beach, but you want to find a sunscreen that you like to use and you can use every day,” she says. “Think about an oil. A sunscreen oil can be shimmery and kind of sexy but still protect you from the sun.”
