It’s time to talk about our most popular SPF: the completely invisible, clean chemical sunscreen, Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40. This is the clear sunscreen that so many people are obsessed with! Keep reading to find out why.
Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 is our most popular clean chemical sunscreen that works on every single skin tone. You may be wondering, “What ingredients are in Unseen Sunscreen?” and “How do you use Unseen Sunscreen?” Well, we’ll go over all of that below!
What is Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40?
Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 is our first completely invisible sunscreen that goes on clear. It’s a smooth, lightweight texture that works both as a primer and as a sunscreen. It contains broad spectrum clean chemical sunscreen actives, as well as ingredients to hydrate your skin and help protect it from blue light.
Why we created it & what makes it so special…
Every single person needs to wear sunscreen every single day, but not every sunscreen works for every skin tone, type or lifestyle. This is why it was so important for us to create Unseen Sunscreen. We studied each ingredient that went into it, to ensure that they would make the formula clean and superpowered, to provide broad spectrum SPF 40 protection, help protect your skin from blue light, work as an amazing makeup-gripping primer, and most importantly, go on clear on every single skin tone.
Check out the video below to learn more from our head of product development, Sofia, on what went into the creation of Unseen Sunscreen:
What’s in Unseen Sunscreen?
As we mentioned, Unseen Sunscreen is a clean chemical formula. You may have heard a bunch of things about chemical sunscreens, like “they cause breakouts” or “they’re hard to stabilize,” but the truth is, chemical sunscreens are a vehicle for innovation and if you formulate them correctly, they can be wonderful – and even nourishing – for your skin.
Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 uses avobenzone, octisalate and octinoxate as its sunscreen actives. (A note about octinoxate: Even before the news surfaced that it may be harmful to coral reefs, we’ve been in the process of eliminating it from all of our formulas…the process takes time and is filled with many nuances, but we will be relaunching an octinoxate-free Unseen Sunscreen at the beginning of next year.)
It took a lot of research and testing to ensure that Unseen Sunscreen would go on clear on every skin tone, and to pull it off, we had to make sure that the right ingredients at the right concentration were blended in the right way. SPF is all that we do (we’re experts!), and we have a unique understanding of how to deliver the actives in the most effective, safe and innovative way. In this particular formula, it meant ensuring that avobenzone is properly stabilized and that the silicones in the formula not only provide the makeup-gripping and priming benefits that we wanted, but also that they would enhance the efficacy of the sunscreen actives.
Speaking of silicones, Unseen Sunscreen contains them. Here’s why: The blend of silicones in this formula help it glide on the skin without any effort, creating a smooth even canvas for makeup to grip onto. They are crucial for delivering the priming benefits, and as mentioned previously, they also help enhance the efficacy of the SPF itself. Silicones also help disperse the sunscreen actives more evenly so that you get a uniform layer of protection, and they also help with the water and sweat resistance due to their hydrophobic nature.
Red algae is also in Unseen Sunscreen to help protect skin from blue light, which is the light emitted from your phone and computer screen. Most types of algae live near the surface of the water where they can get enough sunlight to survive. However, red algae lives in much deeper water — where the red, orange and yellow light wavelengths can’t reach — and they instead have adapted to absorbing blue light for their survival. We harnessed this biological wonder and used it to help protect your skin.
Who is Unseen Sunscreen for?
The beauty of Unseen Sunscreen is that it can be used by anyone! From fair skin to the deepest of skin, apply Unseen all over and your skin will stay the same, with absolutely no chalky look or white cast. Unseen Sunscreen is also non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog pores), so it works wonderfully on a variety of skin types. That being said, combination and dry skin types tend to really love this formula, because it also helps lock hydration from your moisturizer into your skin.
How do I use Unseen Sunscreen?
Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 is one of the best multi-tasking products out there. Apply it before you put on your foundation, and your skin will have a beautiful natural finish that helps it look super glowy underneath makeup products like our CC Cream or your go-to foundation.
You can also use Unseen Sunscreen as your regular sunscreen! We know a lot of guys (and girls who don’t wear makeup) who love using Unseen as their SPF because it’s so easy to use, goes on clear and dries super fast.
At the end of the day, Unseen Sunscreen 40 will make it so easy to start the healthy habit of wearing sunscreen daily!
