SPF Spotlight: Glow Oil SPF 50

glow oil

Today we want to tell you why our Glow Oil SPF 50 is so awesome – but we also want to spend some time on the difference between sunscreen oils and tanning oils, because it’s a big one! Keep reading for more…

What is Glow Oil?

Our Glow Oil is a super hydrating body oil that has broad spectrum SPF 50 protection and a bunch of nourishing ingredients to leave skin glowing, moisturized and, most of all, sun-protected!

…and It’s Way Different from a Tanning Oil

The main difference between sunscreen oils like ours and tanning oils is that a sunscreen oil contains SPF actives that help protect the skin from receiving UV damage, while a tanning oil either does not contain sunscreen actives at all, or they contain an insufficient amount of them (to equal something like an SPF 4 or 8).

There’s still a perception that oils themselves help the skin tan whether or not they contain adequate SPF protection, but that’s simply not true. When you find a sunscreen oil between 30 and 50 that you like, then you’ll just get the added bonus of dewy, hydrated-looking skin (without attracting additional sunlight or damage). Rest assured that whatever form your SPF actives are finalized in — whether it’s a lotion, stick or, in this case, an oil — it will not alter the effectiveness of the actives.

OK, back to Glow Oil…What’s in it?

Glow Oil SPF 50 is packed with clean, nourishing ingredients. First and foremost, it contains broad spectrum SPF 50 in the form of clean chemical actives, including avobenzone, homosalate and octisalate. (It’s also water- and sweat-resistant for up to 80 minutes, making it a wonderful beach pick!)

The formula is also enriched with — you guessed it — oils that have all been carefully selected to soothe your skin and provide a non-greasy shine. Some standouts are sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, and grapeseed oil, which contains two times more vitamin E than olive oil. The oil that makes all the difference, though, is meadowfoam seed oil, which is extremely hydrating and rich in fatty acids. Meadowfoam seed oil also helps prevent oxidation and water loss, allowing for that smooth, lightweight finish. Additionally, antioxidant-rich marigold extract helps soothe skin, thanks to its ability to fight free radical damage.

How do I use Glow Oil?

This oil is perfect for the beach or the pool, or even for everyday use after you shower in the mornings. (We love to keep a bottle near our shower and spritz it on right after we dry off – instead of lotion – to add hydration, glow and protection in one easy step.)

One key thing to keep in mind is that if you are using this oil as your main source of SPF protection while you’ll be outside for a long period of time, make sure you apply an ample amount for full protection. In fact, we suggest spraying a good amount into your palm and then rubbing it onto your skin.

If you want to spray it on, we suggest spraying areas more than once and making sure to cover every visible spot. Also, don’t forget to rub the oil in once you’ve sprayed it on. This will ensure you’re fully protected.
